WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Derek Witt comes to Shoreline with over ten
years of junior college coaching experience. His experience includes stops
at Johnson County Community College, where he helped guide the Cavaliers to
their first and only Junior College National Championship. From their he
spent time at both State Fair Community College and Moberly Community
College in Missouri. While at Moberly, Coach Witt helped recruit a team
that finished runner up for the National Championship. From there Coach Witt
moved out to the west coast and the NWAACC North Division. He spent three
years as the assistant men's basketball coach and got his first head
coaching experience as the Head Women's Coach at Peninsula College in Port
Angeles, WA.
Coach Witt has documented success each and every
stop he has been at with a winning percentage of over 77% in the regular
season and that number goes up over 82% in the Post Season. He has
recruited over 40 players that have went on to play at NCAA Division 1
schools and another 25 that have played at other 4 year schools after junior
college. He has recruited 2 National Junior College Players of the year, and
had 5 players named junior college All-Americans.
Coach Witt credits all of the success to the
individuals who came in and strive for perfection both on and off the court.
His biggest accomplishment is that in ten years over 85% of all his athletes
have already graduated or will graduate with a four year degree. "It is
that level of commitment off the floor that helps us to find the success on
the court. If we can help make these individuals see their potential as a
person and a student, that is success in my book. The rest will eventually
take care of itself."
