Eating Right for a
Healthier Life

1.5 hours for each Task)

This activity will provide you with an opportunity to evaluate your eating habits.  You will begin by studying your eating habits. You will keep track of what you eat for one week. Then you will compare these habits to information you will be learning about on the Web. Finally, you will make a personalized menu plan that will help you live a healthier life.

 

   

Weekend Getaway
(2 hours)

This activity will give you a chance to explore some of Americans' favorite weekend getaways, and then after spending some time researching different destinations and associated costs, select your "weekend getaway" and share your itinerary.    

American
University

(2 hours)

Are you planning to go to an American university when you finish your studies here?  Do you know what to expect?  How will the classes be compared to your ESL classes?  How will they be compared to universities in your country?  Learn about American classroom culture by doing this activity.

   

Learning Styles
(2 hours)

In this assignment, you will learn about your own personal learning style so you can become a more productive learner.

 

   

Where do you want to live?
(2 hours)

Your task will be to compare two cities you are interested in living in and then prepare a paragraph summarizing which one you chose and why.

 

   

Preventing crime in your neighborhood
(2 hours)

You will research Internet resources about crime prevention and then write a summary of what people can do to reduce crime in their neighborhood and schools. 

 

   

American Immigration
(1.5 hours)

For this task you will read a series of charts, tables, and graphs to get Immigration Statistics.  You will then report the statistics on a worksheet.

 

   

Health Conditions
(2 hours)

You will find out how to identify, treat, and prevent a common medical condition.  Then, you will summarize the information you have found and print out the pages that helped you.

 

   

You be the judge!
(2 hours)

Your task will be to read numerous articles on how to critically evaluate a web site and then choose a couple to analyze, documenting your findings on the worksheet along with a written summary of your conclusion.
