Opportunity for a short time commitment, they are looking for a consultant who really understand privacy rules around HIPPA when it comes to non-covered entities.  This person would go in and help conduct a HIPPA privacy assessment.  They are looking for someone to review their operations procedures and potentially help create new protocols.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible for coordinating health information management services across the multi-facility integrated healthcare system. Plans, coordinates and controls department resources; develops policies and procedures; supervises department staff in an effective and efficient manner so the hospital's goals and objectives are attained. Maintains an in-depth knowledge of principles, practices, standards and techniques and demonstrates knowledge in accordance with pertinent laws and regulations in the following areas: Coding and abstracting          Transcription processes,  Analysis and deficiency processing, Physician compliance and communication, Release of information, Forms development and use, Electronic record systems,     Employee management including hiring, discipline, coaching, evaluations, job description preparation, etc., Development of policies and procedures, Statistics, and benchmarking and best practices for all of the above.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in related field; Registration: Registered Health Information Technician or Registered Health Information Administrator with active membership in American Health Information Management Association; Minimum of three year's management experience in an acute care hospital Health Information (Medical Records) department; and, Familiarization with Joint Commission, CMS, federal and state laws regarding medical record keeping requirements in addition to the basic educational components of a Health Information Management program.

Salary Range $13.52-$19.59

REQUIREMENTS: Must possess basic skills to use Microsoft Windows, the internet, and send/receive e-mail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; good keyboarding skills; attention to detail and organizational skills. High School graduate or equivalent preferred. Education in medical record department procedures or medical terminology strongly preferred. One year experience in a health information management/medical records department of an acute care hospital preferred. Two years experience in a related field, such as physician office, clinic, nursing home, etc. preferred.

JOB SUMMARY: Apply federal, state, and Swedish Medical Center regulations and policies for releasing appropriate protected health information documents on patients.  Log and validate authorizations from patients, insurance companies, subpoenas, court orders, and other legal requests. Partner with the Release of Information Coordinator or ROI Specialist I to ensure that legal timelines are met.  Assist customers whether on the phone or in person.  Perform receptionist duties at the front desk as needed.

A graduate of an accredited Health Information Technology (HIT) program is required.    Successfully complete Epic desktop training within the first 90 days of starting in position.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certified through the American Health Information Associate is required. Recent graduates of the HIT program will be given six months to complete the credential.

EXPERIENCE: Two years relevant experience in Health Information Management, in an acute care hospital setting or a multiple doctor clinic.  Graduates of an accredited Health Information Technology program may consider this equal to one year of experience. Requires complete understanding of chart and information flow in HIM and in usage of a clinical information system, Epic preferred. Requires the ability to read and understand the medical chart. Excellent attention to detail.  Work produced must be accurate. Requires organizational skills including the ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines. Intermediate level using Microsoft Office software products including Outlook, Word and Excel Has the ability to format Excel spreadsheets. Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to read, write, understand and communicate clearly in English required. Ability to remain calm in volatile situations.

Job Summary:

This position will:

  • Understand and apply all federal, state and Swedish Medical Center regulations and policies for releasing protected health information
  • Be expected to be a resource to other SMC departments regarding Washington State Confidentiality law and the Federal Regulations (HIPAA).
  • Process amendments to the legal medical record
  • Log and validate all requests received for any purpose, assist customers whether on the phone or in person, and release only the appropriate documents to the requestor in partnership with the Records Processing Specialist.
  • Provide data on productivity, volumes and turn around times to management.
  • Be responsible for approving and setting up new research studies for requestors outside of SMC.

Education

A graduate of a credentialed HIT program is required.  Graduates of this program may consider this as equal to one year of experience.Required to be RHIT or RHIA.

Experience:

Two years experience in a HIM department in an acute care hospital setting or a multiple doctor clinic is required.  Ability and confidence to make decisions in the absence of the supervisor or manager.  Excellent attention to detail-work produced must be accurate.  Must be able to work with deadlines and prioritize work.  Requires complete understanding of chart flow and ability to read and understand chart at a high level.  Ability to read, write, understand and communicate clearly in English.

This is a salary position—hours are M-F 8am to 4:30 pm.
